The top 10 reasons to visit Chicago in the Fall:
To miss the summer heat. Don’t laugh it does actually get hot in Chicago during the summer.
To get here before the cold sets in. Walking down State St. when it is 10 degrees and the downtown wind is turning small dogs into kites is more unpleasant than you might think.
The Bears.
College football returns. Chicago may not have any college football teams, but Big Ten football is only an El ride away at Northwestern. Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan games are all day trips. It is also a great place to watch your favorite team on TV. Most colleges have a designated bar where you can watch your team surrounded by fellow alumni. On of the best things to do on a cool fall day.
The tourist herds have been culled. There still will be tourists but you will not feel like you are on a cattle drive when you walk down Mich. Ave.
The fall colors. Yes we do have trees and from 1000 feet up in the Hancock Building or Willis Tower you can see the trees for miles.
The food. Chicago is not known for its light summer fare. Eating a Flintstonian pork chop does not seem so ridiculous in the cool weather. Those 10 extra pounds will help keep you warm in the winter.
The farmer’s markets. The days of farms in Chicago may be long gone but we do have easy access to MI and Wisconsin. Fall brings apples, great cheese, pumpkins and honey.
Clothes shopping. Chicago is a great place to update that fall wardrobe.
Taking in a Cub’s game. The world’s largest frat party at Wrigley Field has ended as colleges startup so you can enjoy using your cheap tickets and not have to worry about a drunken teenager throwing up on your shoes.
